Furman "Blue Shoes" Invitational Results

The girls and boys teams traveled to Greenville, SC on Saturday to compete in the Furman Blue Shoes Invitational at Furman University.

The weather was perfect for the competition and despite a challenging meet schedule that ran at times up to 2 hours behind schedule, Roswell’s athletes posted outstanding performances with numerous PR’s.

Highlights of the meet:

  • Tanner Hayes competed in the 400 Hurdles for the first time in his career and finished in 1st place with a new meet record time of 57.15 seconds.
  • Richard Delphin tossed the discuss 167 feet on his last throw, establishing a new meet record by almost 15 feet while winnning the discuss event.
  • Tracy Dorcemont established a new school record* and new meet standard while winning the shot put with a throw of 40’ 9" improving the school record established in 2002 by 5 inches.

Congratulations to Tanner, Richard and Tracy on their records and to all of the Roswell track & field athletes for an outstanding meet.

Itinerary-

6:00AM Depart RHS by Charter Bus
Breakfast will be provided at SC Welcome Center during bathroom break. Bagels/fruit/biscuits/juices (est. time 7:30AM)

9:00AM Arrive at Furman University

10:00AM First Events Begin (see schedule)
Lunch and snacks and drinks provided all day

6:00 PM Depart for Roswell
Stop for dinner at a location TBA where there are multiple choices of meal opportunities (one hour stop)

Athletes are on their own for dinner costs.

9:30PM Arrive back at Roswell High School

Drew Kelley and Amber Lewis were recently recognized as athletes of the week by two organizations.

Amber was selected as the “Female Athlete of the Week” by the Roswell Neighbor newspaper in recognition of scoring 30 individual points while claiming county championships in three different events (110 meter hurdles, 300 meter hurdles and the long jump) thus leading the girls track team to a second place finish at the 16-school meet. Amber also participated in the 4×100 meter relay and 4×400 meter relay teams.

Drew participated in the Arcadia Invitational Meet in California during spring break and captured the mile run crown in a strong field with representatives from across the country. On the way to his victory, Drew established a 1600 time of 4:16.5 which is currently the second fastest time in Georgia. For his efforts, Drew was recognized by ga.milesplit as the Georgia AAAAAA male athlete of the week for the week of 4/1 – 4/6.

Milton Quad Meet Results

The weather finally cooperated and on a spectacular night for track & field, the boys and girls teams competed successfully against Cambridge, Milton and Northview at Milton High School on Wednesday night.

The combined team scores placed Roswell in first with the boys totaling 116.50 points while the girls added 56.5 points.

There were some notable individual performances as well with 2 new Milton High School stadium records established by Roswell athletes. Obos Ikpefan set the stadium record while winning the 300 meter hurdles in a near school record time of 39.15 seconds. Drew Kelley captured the 800 meter crown with a stadium record of 1:57.22.
